a beautiful butterfly in the garden graced me this morning with the sight of her spirit leaving her body. she serenely allowed this next metamorphosis of her being to occur without fight.
it was time for her transition.
sadness began to overwhelm me at first, but then i heard the butterfly's song floating and blurring into pure energy. she sang of the correctness of transition, and the beauty of nature. as she knew so well, nature is innate in the universe and therefore in every scrap of life, and it is natural for tangible life to come from and go into energy. her spirit soared with the knowledge, and reminded me that the beauty of a life is what is left in this passage. she gauged her life not by the minutes or the hours in which she existed, but by the nature of that existence, the beauty she brought and left in my eyes, and in my heart.
the tears of my sadness gave way to tears of appreciation for the life she fluttered into this world, gave way to tears of joy for the life she experienced and shared with me. i allowed my tears, an elixir of life, to water the space she left, and watched as her spirit continued on to the next and then the next metamorphosis.
in gratitude for the grace of a passing butterfly
