‹› the Divine Voice ‹›

the student was still quite young when his Mentor proffered, 

"go forth, dear boy: hear the Divine Voice."

after pondering for a moment, the student asked "how does one hear the Divine Voice, honored teacher?"

"ask that question of someone else, honored student" was her reply.

and so he did:

"one listens to the waves moving on the ocean" answered the Seafarer.

the Gardener said, "listen to the flower, young sir, listen to the flower."

"by listening to the wind rustling the leaves of the trees" responded the Woodsman.

the Geomancer looked slowly at the student and graveled, "listen to the rocks growing...."

"to the flutter of wings and the song of flight, listen well ~ therein you will find the Divine Voice" offered the Bird Woman to his query.

and so it went.

some time later, it may have been days, it may have been years, it matters not: but some time later, the student came upon his Mentor who requested he tell her of his quest to hear the Divine Voice.

"Revered Teacher" said he, "i searched and questioned, questioned and searched, until one day it dawned upon me to ask the question of myself.... 'how does one hear the Divine Voice'."

"and what did you answer, young sir?"

"'listen'" smiled the student. "that was my answer.... 'listen'. the song of the Divine is everywhere, in every particle of existence... but one must hear it from within." 

"ahhh..." the Mentor returned a smile to the boy. "then allow us to listen together. come, let us walk a ways...."
