‹› the steps of transformation ‹›

Changing Woman rarely left her wickiup when in her old woman stage, but on this beautiful day she did just that, saying "come my children; walk with me. there is always wisdom to be found in nature...." since everyone in the tribe considered themselves to be her 'children', they all followed. they had not walked far when Changing Woman stopped, sat cross legged on the ground close to where a multitude of butterflies were fluttering and lighting among the flowers. they sat around her and listened, hearing her voice as the faint sound of a flute.

"observe the butterflies, dear children. we know that they, as i, teach you of cycles and transformation; but did you also know that they can help you understand the next step in your own personal cycle of transformation?" "how, honored Mother?" asked a young boy. "by the stages they travel through, young Brave" she said. "there is the egg, which is just the beginning, merely a thought. then larvae, which is the decision to manifest. then they make a cocoon, which is a time of development. and finally there is birth, when they share their beauty with those of us willing to see. if you consider your own cycles in that way you will have a clue as to what to do next.

"let us say you have an idea; that would be the egg. as a butterfly, what would be your next step?" "to decide to make it happen?" answered a young mother with a babe. "yes. and after the decision is made?" "to think, and figure how to make it a reality..." "yes, honored Chief, and building towards that" offered Changing Woman. "and then...?" "you emerge fully beautiful and share it with everyone! just like i did when i was born" announced a very young girl. 

"splendid!" said Changing Woman. "you can apply this to any situation and indeed to your whole life's progression ~ if you know which stage of transformation you are in, you will be aware of your next step on the path.... Oh, look!" she exclaimed. "there goes a Hummingbird. they teach us how to enjoy the Great Spirit's many gifts, and taste the succulent nectar of life. that too you can share with others. come, children, let us follow her...."
