the time traveler's truth

as i sat pondering the past and wondering at decisions made and circumstances created, seemingly out of nowhere a small boy appeared in front of me garbed in clothes of some other time. he looked vaguely familiar to me so i said "hello. do i know you?" "perhaps..." he answered. "i am a traveler through time, come to make a journey with you. come, son, walk with me through my past."

with that, he took my hand and everything around me swirled and twirled and we were walking a path whereupon each step showed me this young boy growing up. i saw him playing and singing in happiness as a child, saw him cry when he got hurt, witnessed his dreams as he progressed ~ some realized, some dashed by circumstance. dreams not so different from mine, dreaming of the future and what it would bring... as if reading my mind he turned and said, "yes. there is a certain universality of joys and pains, dreams and realities. we all feel them...." 

as we continued on, i saw him become a young man and get married, and watched a baby being born. it was me, i realized as he said "i've never been happier than when my children were born."

then everything swirled again and i had my own memories of him working in joy to raise a family, then devastated by the the death of a son.... my heart was aching for his pain when he took my hand again, looked up at me and said:

"the past is a good road to travel at times, my son, but remember it is gone and done. seek it to learn from it, see the moments that have brought you to this point in life. do not judge them good or bad, but ask how they may inform you positively, now. relish that you have grown and you may grow from here. now turn around with this positive perspective and prepare to look into your future, moment to moment, day to day... see now, and then create the future you want to see...."

then he hugged me once, very tightly, and i said, "i love you Papa." he returned as he disappeared and said, "i love you too, son.
