upside down point of view

she had disappeared again! he had sought her out for advice, but before he could even ask she had said,  "come child, let's go see what we can see. perhaps your answers lie elsewhere...."

so they walked mostly in silence by the ocean with his mentor disappearing time and again, leaving him with his thoughts. finally he heard her call; "come here dear boy. come, see this." he ambled over to her and saw a large tortoise upside down on her back in the sand. "is that is why we came here; so i could help her? should i set her right? " he asked. "perhaps. why don't you ask the tortoise" she replied waving her hand in that direction and disappearing again. 

before he could say anything, the tortoise spoke: "i thank you for your offer kind sir. yes, please turn me upright." as he did so he remarked, "it must be difficult to be in such a way and not be able to right yourself. perhaps it's a good thing i happened along to help." "yes it is. my deepest gratitude. all of us need help at times, and i sense this is one of those times for you..." "yes, in truth" said the student. "i feel all upside down too; as if i'm stuck on my back and will never reach my goals or fulfill my desires....." the tortoise moved a bit closer to him and said "sometimes, young one, it is a good thing to look at one's world from a different perspective, even upside down. you may see a new, more accessible path to where you are going. enjoy the sights and sounds of being upside down, if it's meant to be, and learn therein that everything may not be as it seems. be calm and flexible at these moments; pull away from the ordinary, stagnant way of viewing the world and your goals, so when you do right yourself ~ or some kind soul like yourself helps ~ you may take that new view with you on your Way. paths will begin to open to you which were never blazed before. you will be filled with a new wonder for life and find things you never knew existed. every step will carry you into an ever changing awe of the universe around you. then, no matter how long it takes to get where you're going, your path will be full of fulfillment and the wonder of living. fare well young sir."

as he turned, his mentor was directly before him. "was i here to help her, or was she here to help me?' he asked. "perhaps both my child. come, let us see what we can see...."
