‹› missing the miracles ‹›
"allow me to be guided to the lesson for today by you" the teacher offered her students. "is there a question roaming around in anyone's heart or mind?"
"yes, honored teacher" spoke up one of the older girls; "do miracles truly happen? my father says there are no true miracles in this world other than the ones we make for ourselves."
"your father may be right that we have the ability to make our own miracles, Joanna. however, one must see miracles before making them. perhaps your father is missing the miracles present all around us, or is taking them for granted.... what is a miracle?"
"the dictionary says it is an event that contradicts known scientific laws, hence thought to be due to supernatural causes, especially to an act of God" answered a younger boy.
"thank you Noah; very precise" smiled the teacher. "and, if we are to believe, as i most firmly do, that the music of the Divine is present in all things of Creation, whatever name one puts to it, then would not everything hold the seed of a miracle? even those supported or explained by 'scientific laws'?" she paused for a second looking out the window, and then said, "there is plenty of sun on the snow of last night. let us go out and see if we can witness a miracle."
once outside the teacher stopped the group in front of some grasses peeking through the snow.
"what miracle do you see here?" she asked.
"it's a miracle that moth is not frozen" laughed someone.
"yes, indeed" chuckled the teacher. "her ability to withstand this cold is miraculous, a gift of her creation. and notice the colors on her shining brilliantly in the sunlight... is that not a wondrous sight? a miracle of construction in its own right. now, study the grass for a second. do you realize that after the snow goes and the time of spring arrives, these grasses will grow green and abundant again? yes of course you do; but many people take the miracle of cycles and the ever-present existence of the seed of life for granted; forgetting how amazing it is that this can happen. it is rather easy to believe that miracles do not happen if one becomes inured to those that sing all around us."
at that, the group went about witnessing other astounding sights and exclaiming, "look here!" "there's another one" "and another..."
soon, the teacher gathered them around, and whispered as if it were a great secret:
"once you become aware of the seemingly smallest of miracles, you will see more and more enter your life. abundance seeks abundance, dear students. revel in those miracles you see, and be sincerely grateful for them, and you will truly see them grow and grace your existence always. shall we go inside and warm our miraculous selves?"
may you be blessed with miracles every day
