☰ ~ wu wan • innocence ~ ☳
"in this hexagram, wu wan, heaven is above thunder..." the I Ching Master offered after careful study of the lines indicated by the throw of the coins. "forgive me Sir" he continued, addressing the man sitting next to him, "but i do not feel you to be a man of innocence."
"you feel correctly Master Ching" answered the large, powerful looking man. "i lost that particular grace as a young child."
"yes, many of us do" replied the I Ching Master, then proceeded with his reading of the lines. "however, the counsel of this hexagram is a returning to natural innocence. please know however, that there are two kinds of innocence: one of a child, who lacks true knowledge of the workings of time, circumstance, or the concept of positivity and negativity. the other form of innocence, and the one advised herein, is a restoration of purity and integrity after one has experience and knowledge of the world. this is truly a valuable innocence, and quite different from the naive or ignorant innocence of childhood. this type of natural innocence includes a deep awareness and understanding of the laws of the universe and its response to ones energies and thoughts. the one who holds this, knows they have the capacity to do harm or produce negativity, but chooses to not do so. this is a restoration of natural innocence, the development of which leads to wisdom and correct action. know you this, good Sir; thunder under heaven can produce much needed rain, yet can also produce lightning which can be dangerous to the naive. this is the truth of unexpected happenings and disasters which are out of one's control. the counsel here is to approach all events with the knowledgeable innocence of heaven over thunder. remain guileless and guiltless by choice, and you shall find a bright and honorable path ahead. as the ancients have many times expressed, our rewards and our punishments are most often due to our own thoughts and the resulting actions. approach each unexpected movement that comes to you with purity and the natural innocence of universal knowledge, and the lightning will not strike you, nor those your love and protect. this is the way of spiritual growth my friend, and you are being advised to develop it within yourself for true and lasting happiness and success. remaining virtuous will bring abundant benefits, whereas if you return not to innocence, it can bring disaster much greater than the striking of lightning upon you...."
the powerful man let out a long and comprehending sigh, and hung his head low in thought, and remained silent as the Master collected his coins and belongings. he then looked up as Master Ching was going away, and quietly said "thank you wise Master, thank you."
"do not be dismayed" Master Ching exclaimed as he walked away..."it is a choice, and once made, the beautiful and ease strewn Way shall open up to you and to your future...."
