‹› song of the elements ‹›

on a quest to "ask the Bee what the Druids knew", as the old adage goes, Demeter serendipitously happened upon very ancient Bard who seemed to know what the Bee knew.

"'coincidence' is just a word, Demeter" the Bard replied when Demeter suggested this in relation to their meeting. "it never truly happens. we have met by design, my friend, so that i may in part fulfill your quest. much of the Druid life and Lore has been mislaid by the passing of time and the systematic attempt by others to abolish memory of the Druids, or at least significantly change it. however, i 'happen' to know one of the lost songs of Druid Lore, which i would share with you. originally, it was a 'prayer', sometimes called an 'affirmation', of sorts. if it had a title, it would be (and the Bard began to sing):

The Song of the Elements, Sung to the Self

i feel sacred Elements move in my body

and praise their place within me.

they bring me to fullness and fill me well

and carry me beyond time, truth to tell.

 i feel the nature of sacred Mother Earth,

through death, and life, and re~birth.

 i graciously accept her strength as mine,

honoring her gift through infinite time.

i feel sacred Fire in Self and in Spirit,

 with blazing respect i never fear it;

rather hold it dear, in passion and love,

and out of old ashes, flies a beautiful dove.

i feel sacred water, the Elixir of Life,

it is my flow, my heart, my precious sight.

 yes, Water i praise as i do my blood,

forever blessing the drop, the spring, the flood.

i feel sacred Air in cycles of breath,

and shall always, of course, until my death.

on Air come truths and visions and dreams,

so i may fly the infinite streams.

 the last Element Sacred, may not be spoken,

 and my vow to it shall not be broken...."

the ancient Bard breathed deeply, wished Demeter success with his quest, and bowed deeply as he moved away and said, "you shall remember this, Demeter, and sing it to yourself. when you deeply understand, and praise that which is within and without, you will know the last Element Sacred...."
