‹› a balanced nature ‹›
the Bird Woman was a marvelous healer and appeared in the wetlands any time she was called upon to tend ailing or injured birds. and at times, she came simply to drink in the serenity gained by watching her beloved winged creatures in their home. always, she was willing and eager to share her knowledge with those who watched her or walked with her: and those blessed to hear her would leave with the conviction that she knew as much about people as she did about birds....
on this particular day, Ibis, for that was what the Bird Woman called herself, was speaking to a rather small group following her:
"consider this fellow here..." she whispered. "you know, Dragons, who in my sight are truly great cousins to birds, have forever said 'balance is a matter of fact'. this handsome fellow here is exemplifying that rather neatly, do you not think? see how confident he is standing upon that tightrope of a branch. he is without doubt as he walks this possibly treacherous path, and completely in balance with himself and with his surroundings. notice also, how self-sufficient he is. this magnificent bird knows that this is a walk he must make for himself. it could be a healing path, or a path of progress, or merely a path to the edge of flight into the unknown, but it is clear to him that he must take it alone. he trusts in the nature of the tree, and in his own temperant nature, to support him on this journey, relying on his instincts to guide him along the way. there are indeed many times when one must look to a balanced nature and intuition to carry one through.
this brilliant and beautiful bird understands that his reward for this trust and belief will be well worth the potential perilousness, for by this action he will catch the fish he spies, or be glorified from this precipice in the flight he so dearly loves. there is no doubt in his heart, mind or spirit. and when it comes, he will gratefully celebrate in feast or flight, made all the more delicious for his trek of self reliant balance."
the small group stood still for a while, silently supping at her words and the panorama of birds surrounding them, until Ibis finally spoke again:
"come along if you like; i know where there is a nest of eggs ready to hatch, where we may witness another beginning to a blessed journey about to be taken.
many blessings on your Way
