‹› a matter of belief and perspective ‹›
it was a morning full of beauty. she opened the back door of the cottage, stepped into the garden and saw it teeming with life. there were all manner of visitors this morning: doves, dragonflies, damsels, butterflies, and a lovely lizard with wings.... 'what?' she thought, and looked again. she couldn't quite believe what she was seeing, but indeed there it was ~ a lizard with exquisite wings watching her from the corner of the cottage wall. "i do not believe it" she muttered shaking her head. "and what's not to believe?" chirped the lizard lightly. before she realized what she was doing, the woman, Cassie by name, exclaimed "a lizard with wings, that's what! there are no such creatures as flying lizards; everybody says so. ...did you just talk to me?" "yes, of course i did" answered the lizard matter-of-factly. then, as Cassie's mouth dropped open, he continued; "so, do you believe everything everybody says?" "well, yes.. i mean no.. well, maybe.. i don't know..." stammered Cassie.
"perhaps it's possible" said the lizard knowingly, "that there have always been winged lizards but no one could see them. interesting that this should come up so easily, for it is the exact reason i flew here to visit you today; to talk with you about belief and perspective." Cassie was silent in her confusion. "actually Cassie" the lizard continued, "i am a messenger from somewhere deep in your memory, come to help you see something. think back a long time ago.... once, as a child, you thought you saw a flying lizard, i think you called it a tiny dragon. but when you told people, they all said, 'there is no such thing,' 'your eyes are deceiving you,' 'you are imagining it,' and other similar phrases that ultimately convinced you they were right. just because they didn't believe it, you stopped also. since then, you have had a lifetime of people convincing you what to believe and laminating their particular perspective onto you, so that you may not even know what your personal perspective is. even now, you remember what others have told you about yourself, and believe it to be true because it is so ingrained that you accept it without question. i have come here to ask you to question again; for your growth and your happiness. please, look intimately at your beliefs and your perspectives on certain circumstances and search your true memory, your personal Akashic Record.... are these beliefs born out a conviction in your own heart and soul, or are they perhaps trained in you by the insistence of others? are your perspectives actually the way you, deep inside, view the world, or are they perspectives handed down to you which may immure your freedom of thought and possibilities...? search well in the depths of your memories, and you will find that, if you are open, the truth will be shown to you in the ringing of bells from your heart and soul. you will be able to ascertain whether or not a belief or a perspective is truly yours... and once discerning that truth, you will have the freedom to know if it is beneficial to you or not. then you can easily disavow it if needed, or allow it to organically become part of the true you if desired. some beliefs that others instill in you about yourself and the world can be correct and worth retaining in your heart, but some can be very destructive and damaging to growth, if kept in your heart.... discover the difference and you will discover freedom, contentment in your convictions, and happiness in your life."
the lizard with wings stopped and looked at Cassie, who said "i thank you dear messenger for your care and concern. i believe it would be worthwhile to do as you ask."
"Excellent!" sang the lizard who began to fly around her head chirping; "you know it is your choice of course Cassie, but i think it a very good thing to believe in tiny dragons with beautiful wings...."
