 from truth to greatness

he had been walking for hours, trying to open himself to his own beauty and wonder as his Mentor had suggested, when he saw one of the most revered Wise Ones in the world sitting silently on a ledge. the student turned to go in respect for the space of meditation, when without opening his eyes the Wise One spoke to him: "ahh. finally! i have been waiting for you, young sir. i have a story for you." without question, the student sat to listen.

"i am great and respected now, my son, but it was not always so. at one point my inner self was hidden from me too. then, one day, i was walking on the beach trying to find what beauty i might possibly possess when i came upon a sand encrusted bottle. as i began to rub it clean, i noticed what looked like a message in it. when i opened the cap, without warning swirls of smoke and fire poured from the bottle, engulfed me and rode me magically up into the sky. i was floating in the smoke and was the fire, my face and hands glowing bright. out of the cloud~like smoke just below me there came a face of great magnitude.
'are you a Genie?' i asked. 'no. Genies come in lamps. i am in essence your true self. in some ways you have hidden me, but i come with a message: be not fearful of your greatness. this is the wonder and beauty you seek, but are afraid to see. perhaps you think you may not be able to live up to the standards greatness sets, or perhaps you feel the beauty you perceive in yourself is an illusion. neither is true. you have the the power and the strength to accomplish anything you set your heart upon. it will take some diligence, some work, but fear of the outcome will stifle that work, and you may never reach the true wonder and beauty inside. embrace your greatness, appreciate it, develop it, and share it. the universe will be a better place for your humble yet true recognition of self. now go on about your life of greatness and appreciation, dear boy...."

the student, who had closed his eyes to listen, opened them then. the Wise One had disappeared, but on the ground there was a piece of parchment that simply said, 'agree to live in greatness'
