harmonious interactions

"people, people, please!" as he tapped his baton on the music stand."this is an orchestra, not a battlefield! where's the harmony?" "Harmony plays 1st chair horn, Maestro" shouted the timpani player, and everyone tittered. unperturbed, the Maestro continued; "very well. Harmony, can you tell us what your name means, please?" "yes Maestro. 'the pleasing combination of two or more tones in a chord.'"

"Thank you. yes, in music and everywhere; when things are in accord, pun accepted, we have harmony. every note you play, every word you say, every action you make sets up a vibration. when that vibration interacts with other vibrations and it is pleasing, it is 'harmonious' ~ when the vibrations clash, it is 'discord.' for just a moment, imagine the sounds of a peaceful household... is that pleasing to you?" "yes, Maestro" the members all said together.. "now imagine everyone fighting in the house.... is that a pleasing sound?" "no Maestro, no."

"so then"  he said, "can we equate peace with harmony?" "yes Maestro," everyone sang out. "and war with dis~chord!" cried the timpani player as he struck the drum loudly. "yes, certainly" answered the Maestro; "and a frightful sound it is! so... harmony starts right here with you. play in tune with each other. practice being harmonious in all interactions ~ not only in music, but also in interactions with your friends, your family, your loved ones. see if you can modulate your vibrations and perhaps, thereby, come to harmonious agreements.... please, don't fight with each other's notes, or worry about winning or losing; that's war talk, and no one truly wins in war.

now, let us play this passage again; in harmony ~ who knows? we may bring peace to the entire world. or at the very least, to my poor old ears...."
