 ‹› the hanging man ‹›

he had not listened to any of the others' in this. he knew the way and they were not paying attention to him because they thought themselves better than he, not because he was mistaken. so, a bit petulant, he struck out on his own certain that he was right. but now he found himself far off the path,  stumbling in the woods, exhausted and in pain. he had just admitted to himself that he was totally lost, and as he glanced upward in a plea for help he saw a man hanging upside down from a tall tree close by. on a second look, he realized that the man hanging there did not seem in discomfort at all but appeared quite serene.

"hello Sir" called the lost man to the hanging man; "what are you doing up there? who are you?"

"just hanging about..."the other man answered. "i'm called Odin." "Odin? like the Norse God?" "yes. you see, Odin suspended himself upside down for nine days and nights seeking spiritual insight. i follow his example so people call me Odin. in essence, i am Odin, for we are all One." "well, Odin" said the man with some sarcasm, "can you tell me how to get out of here?" Odin thought for a moment, and as an auric light began to glow from his head, he answered cryptically:

"i can certainly help you find the path you need, but you must be willing to take it. the path of which i speak is of a higher vibration than the one you take, and you must sacrifice something to be on it. what you must sacrifice, my dear Sir, is your Ego. you are lost because you are bound in the trappings of your personality. these bindings inhibit growth and impede progress and you may never find your way out of the woods in which you are trapped unless you release these bounds by releasing your Ego. if you were to hang upside down for a while, you would experience a descent from your conscious to your unconscious self, which in turn leads to communication with your highest self and Divine Unity. within your ego you experience fear, doubt, persecution and pain, for it is a veil which separates the self from this unity. once you remove this veil and are on this path Oneness, you will find peace, support, love and healing. this is the path you need my friend. on it, your will which debilitates you now and keeps you lost, will become a reflection of the cosmic will which always worked toward the highest good, for you and for all. so, if you are willing to make this sacrifice and find a true, open supportive path for yourself, release your Ego into the thoughtless void, break away from habitual thoughts and actions that impede growth and bring negative results to all those around you. turn your heart and mind to the Oneness of all and find your Way open and full of truth, love and serenity. never bind yourself again with the trappings of the Ego and you will surely find your way to the highest good for all."

as the man in the woods listened, he found himself transforming and releasing the need to prove, the need to be right, and all his anxieties were floating away. a beautiful path opened up just in front of him and he was compelled to take it. he paused for a moment to say "thank you Odin. thank you... by the way, how did you get up there anyway?"

"ahhh, now that's a whole other story.... "
