be happy now...
a young student once asked his wizened mentor: "how may i see what my future will be?" without pause she answered, "go out upon the path leading from here and find yourself coming back." and so he did. he had not gone far when he faced an impassable bog and could go no further. as he meditated on this predicament, one of the bog stumps came to life and walked toward him ~ he recognized himself, older, wearing the red cap and robes of a sage. "oh tell me future self, will i be happy?" "do you wish to be happy?" "yes." "then be happy now" "i also wish to be blessed" said the student. "then know your blessings now and appreciate them. they will grow in that light. if you wish to see beauty in the future, see beauty now, everywhere. if you wish love, love now, whole heartedly. if you wish to be serene, find serenity in yourself now... and if you wish to be wise, perceive the wisdom you have now, and use it well. your future could be anything, so begin it now."
the sage then became a bog stump again, as a beautiful path opened up for the student to follow....
