as she stood facing the field she spread her arms open saying "what do you see, little ones?" the gaggle of children around her stirred and mumbled a bit, but one small boy said, "a bunch of weeds Grandmother. My father cuts them or kills them because they take over our lawn." "ahhh, yes; weeds..... did you know children, that some people, those who live with the land not on it nor owning it, have no word for 'weeds'? every plant has importance. some are delicious food to nurture you. some are poisonous to eat, but in small doses can be great medicine. one here will make you vomit..." "Yeeuuuck!" "... but the one next to it will cure a stomach ache. some have flowers that bring beauty, butterflies and bees, while some provide a home for the spider who teaches us many things...."
as they turned to walk away she said, " perhaps if we could see people in this manner, the world would be less troubled." "see people as weeds, Grandmother?" Spider Woman chuckled. "as plants, little dear; there are no weeds..... and tell your father that when you cut down or kill them, some plants just become stronger and more determined to eat your grass...."
