‹› the dusty Buddha ‹›

Blaise was about to unlock the door to his apartment when he was startled by someone calling his name from behind him on the stairway. he turned to see a woman walking energetically toward him extending her hand, repeating his name, and saying,

"...wait up. my name is Sara and i am compelled to tell you something."

"you're the Urban Shaman" exclaimed Blaise as he extended his hand to shake hers.

instead of taking his proffered greeting, however, the woman walked past him, grabbed the doorknob and opened the door to his amazement: he was certain it had been locked. Sara continued into his room chortling slightly.

"yes; so i have been named by others" she said striding directly and confidently to a darkened and neglected corner of the apartment. "Blaise" she continued, looking down at a table in the corner, "the Buddha has gathered dust. whatever this particular icon means to you ~ perhaps serenity, perhaps clarity of mind and heart working together ~ has become occluded by the accumulation of disappointment and apathy gathering in your life. we are at the beginning of a new cycle my dear boy, and now is the time to clean off the dusty results of the past."

Sara waved her hands over the Buddha and the dust and cobwebs disappeared in the blink of an eye. she turned to look at Blaise, who was awed into silence, and said,

"Blaise, open your eyes. see your dreams anew and take the inspiration of a new start fully into your life. now is the time. clear your dusty passages and walk happily into this new cycle of time."

Sara, the Urban Shaman, clapped her hands together and the entire apartment seemed to ring with a shining light. she began to laugh with glee, then turned again to Blaise.

"so" she said, finally shaking his hand. "can you offer a cup of tea to an old woman, young man?"

Blaise smiled, and they sat together for a good while, bringing in the New Year.

‹› a new age ‹›

the Silent Seer peered up at the sky and thought these few things, although everyone heard as if he had spoken aloud:

"a power of pelicans passes by as the Sun begins its return after the longest night. this tells us that we fly into the cycle of a new age at this time. hold in your heart the beauty of the natural order, and this age shall become one of peace, prosperity and positive change. you shall fly with new eyes turned toward truth and timeless love. 

we fly in consort, though we fly alone. take care of each other and self so that untold blessings may fly with you."

with that the Silent Seer transformed into a pelican and flew into the new age.

‹› we begin anew ‹›

"blessings of the Solstice to you all" began Leah the Visionary, speaking to the multitude gathered before her. anyone who could travel at all had come to hear her vision on this winter's day, and together they offered her blessings in return. as the voices of the crowd diminished, Leah held her hands out to her sides, palms up, and spoke again.

"i went to my bed on the longest night of the year. it was snowing and cold, and the darkness after twi' was complete as i fell asleep. however, when i awoke i found myself in an abundant land of green trees and flowers of vivacious color. the Sun had awakened as well, and was beginning its return. the Sun shown over clouds and through petals of purple and pink. i walked into the sunlight with my eyes open and unshielded, and knew this was a sign of prosperous things to come. the Sun dappled its grace upon my face and began to sing to me. and what i heard was this:

'we begin anew together now

with visions of hope and knowledge of how.

our hands are clasped in joyful remembrance

and our feet feel full of movement and dance.

place nothing below we place not above

and allow our lives to soar with love.

for nothing is greater at this time of returning

than the promise of balance in a heart that is yearning.

abundance comes as sure as light does shine

and this is the gift of this Solstice divine.

let us begin anew together now

in visions of hope with knowledge of how....'

Leah realized as she stopped that everyone had started singing with her. she glanced around the massive group and witnessed hand clasping and hugging and fervent happiness. Leah the Visionary knew then that all were sharing her vision somehow.

‹› catching a thermal ‹›

on a whim, Sara, the Urban Shaman, took a walk along a path in the countryside. she encountered no one until, after a long time, she stepped into a clearing just as a woman passed her going the other direction with her head bent down. the woman did not even notice Sara, but immediately in some precognitive response to the other woman's demeanor, Sara looked up to the sky. she quickly turned around and called to the back of the passing figure:

"if your name is Audrey, i have something to tell you!"

the other woman stopped and turned slowly to face the Urban Shaman and said, cautiously, "yes. my name is Audrey, but how did you..."

Sara cut her off saying, "i heard your name as i looked to the sky and received a message for you. i knew it must be you, for there is no one else around!" she chuckled a little as Audrey incredulously moved toward her, then closed her eyes and continued in a sort of trance.

"catch a thermal, Audrey. that is the message the Raptors in flight have told me. allow me to elucidate.... you are fighting the wind my dear girl. you are despondent and feel as if you are getting nowhere fast, for that very reason. you must use your discerning intuition and your keen inner sight to find the thermal winds in your present situation, instead of trying to fly above or below them. otherwise you waste energy and allow the movement of those around you to keep you hovering, or even going backwards. once you catch the thermals, you will find that you can fly with ease for a great distance, and even glide past the difficulties and obstacles of this situation. also, once there in these benign drafts, you will be able to relax and look at the bigger picture of everything. from there, your present hardships will seem paltry, being only a small portion of the large sky. ahhh, yes dear Audrey, you can fly high and well if you will lift your head, use your your gift of potent inner sight, espy the thermal passages of support and serenity, and dive right into them. there you need not even use your wings but for balance as you soar. fight the winds no longer my friend. catch a thermal and you will find more energy, more strength, and more joy in your life."

Sara, opened her eyes, looked at Audrey and said, matter-of-factly "well. that's it. that's the message." she turned and started to walk away. Audrey shook her mind back into reality and called after the Urban Shaman,

"please, allow me to thank you. if you would care to join me, whoever you are, i have some apples, wine and cheese in my pack here."

"oooh, that would be lovely! my name is Sara. yes, that would be perfect; we can lie in the grass for a while and watch the birds ride the winds...."

‹› a message to the Humans ‹›

the young Seer in Training, Byron, paused for a moment with a slight lump in his throat. he was looking out at the assembled mentors, teachers and students with trepidation, hoping they would not laugh at his encounter. nevertheless, it was clear that he must relate it. he cleared his throat with a sheepish grin, then gathered his strength and began in a strong clear voice.

"my name is Byron, and i have had the pleasure and honor to be visited by and converse with a very strange couple indeed: a Turkey and a Raccoon..." he waited for a moment, but no one was laughing. as a matter of fact, he heard a murmur of "wonderful... how amazing... what did they say?" feeling a bit more comfortable, he continued his story:

"Turkey and Raccoon came walking toward me as i was sitting on the Grand Lawn this morning. they were a little shy at first, but then came close and offered me salutations. i returned the honor, of course, and they sat together to talk to me, saying i was chosen to deliver 'a message to the Humans'. it seems that Turkey and Raccoon have been best friends for a very long time, and are respected in their world as Seers of sorts. unusual as it is, their combined energies allow them to have visions and epiphanies which they share with other animals. and they have decided to share this one with us.

they told me this: we are entering into a new and wondrous time in this world. the time of conflict and destruction is over, and we, as a whole, are reaching into a new paradigm. a season of love and understanding is upon us and we shall all reap the rewards if we open our hearts to it. they were quite concerned that humans might not pick up on the changes as quickly as others in this universe, so they sought to give voice for us to hear. they told me it was very important right now for all of us to drop the old energies of hate and despair, prejudice and blame, for these things have no place in the new vision of life. we are to not only open our hearts, but also our minds and our spirits to the new, peaceful energies that are being created with this coming paradigm. and they told me quite clearly that we should drop all assumptions and expectations we have known in the past, and happily reach into the future with joy in our hearts. any patterns that do not serve the cause of peace and harmony must be let go of now, for they only become friction and resistance to the organic growth of life."

Byron stopped for one moment, gauging the reaction of his audience. it was positive and many were nodding their heads vigorously in agreement. he sighed a big contented sigh, and finished his delivery.

"the last thing they said, before they bade me good bye, was that we must listen to our intuitions and instincts in these times. as Raccoon put it, 'be aware of and accept true bonds of friendship, partnership, love and respect no matter how they arrive. for these qualities of peace and happiness will cross every boundary in the times to come...." 

Byron chuckled slightly and said, "this must be true. for how else could a Turkey and a Raccoon become such close, long lived friends?" and to his delighted surprise, Byron, the Seer in Training,  received thunderous applause of acceptance as he bowed in honor to the assemblage.

‹› the Dreamsayer ‹›

most often, people call her the Dreamsayer, because she divines truth and meaning from dreams. she calls herself Ora, because... well, because that is her name. today, a young woman named Elsa comes to her, and as usual, Ora asks her to not say anything, but to listen well.
"you need not tell me your dream, Elsa" the Dreamsayer announces, "for i can see what's in your heart and mind by touching your hand," which Ora does before she continues. "in the dream for which you want meaning, you saw a tree with heart shaped leaves. three birds appeared and flew to perch upon the branches of this tree. one was a bird of prey, while the other two were more gentle, peaceful birds. allow me to begin there, Elsa:

these birds represent the choices you are about to make in your life, yet they are not as mutually exclusive as you may think. the bird of prey signifies strength, and quick action, which you need at times to make your way in this world. he watches and listens for the right moment, but then acts swiftly and with committed precision. this will become an attribute in your life and add clarity to your thoughts. at the same time, the gentle birds are asking you to always remember that your actions will affect others immensely, so you must temper your strength with heartfelt consideration and compassion as you go. these attributes will work hand in hand to insure a well rounded life full of friendship and love. the heart shaped leaves are an affirmation of this abundant love in your life.

speaking of the heart shaped leaves; in your dream, a wind comes by and whisks most of them off the tree to fly away into the distance. you are concerned that this means affection and love will fly away as did they. this is incorrect, dear Elsa. the truth i see here is one of total freedom and renewed hope. your heart will never be constricted, and will remain open and full. although it may be bound to another, it will always be free, and able to fly honestly into love. and, as the leaves affirmed the meaning of the birds, here the birds affirm the meaning of the leaves. freedom to fly in strength and hope to the best possible outcome of any situation.

now; as you watched the leaves wend away in the wind of your dream, you noticed a large, beautiful silver sliver of Moon under which they flew. this, dear Elsa, is nothing less than the declaration of new beginnings, and the assurance that those beginnings will be ultimately full of success, and take you far in this life. this slivered Moon portrays purity and the essence of the feminine spirit, telling me that your existence from here on will be one full of the appreciation of the aesthetics of beauty, and that you yourself will be viewed with that same appreciation."

Ora, pauses for a moment, gazing intently at the young woman, then says, finally, "Elsa, your inner self, your dreamland, is prophesying a path abundant with hope, love, sensuality, worth, and fulfillment. go now my dear, and fly into it with strength, compassion and conviction. all is well."

‹› the cornerstones of life ‹›

"it is quite rare for a human to find my home" said the Elemental Seer, who was also known as Wizard to those who inhabited the magnificent and magical forest. he was speaking to the determined young woman who at that moment was climbing simple wooden steps on a vine covered tree toward the house at the top. "you have searched for and have found, Viola, so i am honor bound to tell you what i see" continued the Wizard, "but first, please tell me how my home appears to you. it looks different to each who behold it."

by this time, Viola had reached the top landing. she was amazed that as she climbed she became smaller and smaller until she was as tiny as a wood elf. she took a deep breath, shook the surprise of her new size from her head, and said to the Elemental Seer, "i see a comfortable old wood cabin with a warm fire inside trailing smoke from the chimney. and from here, i can see a glorious river off in the distance."

"ahhh" exclaimed the Seer, "this is very significant, and tells me much. please come in and let us sup whilst we talk."

once inside, Viola was yet again surprised; the house seemed much larger than it could possibly be, sitting at the top of a tree. but there was indeed a roaring and comforting fire, next to which she and the Wizard sat with tea and sweets, as he spoke to her quietly:

"you, my dear Viola, are being blessed by all the Elements in your life. it is good that you see them. you seek comfort and happiness in this existence, and you shall find them, for i see that you are building you own inner home with the very cornerstones of pure and energetic life.

your thoughts are free moving, yet with substance, very like the smoke you see in the air. this will bring you peace of mind and a flexible faith in inspiration and intuition.

you also are blessed by the fire you witness here. this will burn within you as courage and conviction and help you follow and attain your true desires. it will also warm you in the darkest passages of life. hold it dear, my dear." the Seer smiled warmly and gleefully at Viola for a second and then continued.

"you see the water, the elixir of life, the tears of the Divine, in the distance. this tells me that you must bring a deeper love for all into your heart as you walk the forest of your life. in this manner, you will become a compassionate and fair being, who may well lead others to the truths in their own hearts.

and lastly,Viola, you have braved the depth of these earthly woods in search of your path, and see this home as a structure built in and with the tangible elements therein. this speaks of your innate practicality and the stability of your inner strength. you connect strongly with Nature. remember to always draw strength from Her as you go, if needed, and you will progress quickly in your resolve indeed. also, my dear Viola, as you came up the tree to the house you see, you became smaller rather than the house becoming larger. this shows me that you have a desire and the ability to adapt to your natural surroundings instead of forcing your surroundings to adapt to you. this quality will carry you far, making you travels and successes much easier and fulfilling."

the Elemental Seer then started rubbing his hands together briskly in front of the fire, and suddenly, Viola found herself back in the woods, looking up at the tree she had just moments before climbed. the house was gone, as if never there, but she could still hear the quiet and pleasant voice of the Wizard from all around:

"go now Viola with the blessings of the Elements. play the symphony of your life with all these attributes in mind and heart and spirit, and there will be nothing to stop you from achieving that comfort and happiness you so desire.... thank you for the visit. perhaps you may find me again when the need arrives"

Viola began walking back through the magnificent and magical forest, singing a spirited song and contemplating the symphony of her life to come....
