‹› healing balance ‹›

when she awoke, it was clear to her that the dream had been a sign, a signal of sorts telling her to follow her shadow to find the help she needed. in her dream, her shadow looked at times like a huge black panther walking in front of her and turning his head periodically to make certain she was following. she had heard tales of the mysterious, gigantic panther who lived in the forest near her dwelling, the sight of whom was supposed to be magically healing. she had always before been too afraid to seek him, but after the dream of last night she was determined, frightened as she was, to pay heed and and search for the healer cat.

once outside, she turned until her shadow was in front of her and began to follow it as it headed into the forest. at times, she would pause afraid to go further into the deepening darkness of the woods, but her shadow would continue on and she would run to catch up. finally, as she entered a sun dappled opening in the forest, she heard a deep feline voice rumbling somewhere above her. "welcome Areva" purred the voice, "it is good to see you have followed the signs and found me." Areva looked up to see a large black cat languishing on a tree limb. finding her voice in her surprise, she said "you are certainly not gigantic are you? nor fearsome as i had heard." "just as most fears, the legend of my size has outgrown the truth" yawned the cat, stretching. "nor will the sight of me heal" he continued. "one ultimately heals oneself Reva, but i can help if you care to listen." "oh, yes please" replied Reva.

"excellent. then listen well dear Lady, with a heart open to truth. you have sought healing from many sources, but never from the one source most capable; the wellspring within you. your fears of the unknown, and of what you call darkness within yourself, have made you and continue to make you ill. why, until today, you were even afraid of your own shadow. there is hope, since you determinedly stepped into the unknown and followed your shadow with bravery. remember this, and apply this bravery more fully in your life. be courageous and look upon the shadows that reside in you from which you recoil in fear. you are a child of light dear Reva, but to truly understand your own depths and fully heal you must open the darkness to light, and also allow the light within to have shadow. they both need each other to exist, and a phenomenal healing can occur once you embrace both and strike a balance. remember as you look upon this darkness that, just as my own legend has done, most fears and shadows grow out of proportion when hidden away. face these within you and they will shrink to their true size so you may handle them easily. they will no longer be obstacles or barriers to your health and progress. in the balance of dark and light you will find the harmony of twilight, and will be able to freely and bravely dance into the unknown. you may not be able to exercise control over what is yet unformed, Reva, but with this balance you will be able to face whatever comes with strength and self trust. slip through the darkness in safety, dear girl, and sun yourself when possible, seeing that your healing has begun."

with that, the magic panther closed his eyes to sleep, and Reva's shadow beckoned her to follow it home; which she did, feeling very brave indeed....
