‹› truth and treasure ‹›

try as they could, no one was able to open the door. there was no keyhole, nor any apparent lock on the door, but it would not open to any of their ministrations. Lemish had discovered the ancient wall and doorway on a walk through the oldest part of the forest, and when he could not budge it, he went to gather help. all gathered there decided that it was a magical doorway because when they walked around to the other side, there was no sign of a wall or a door; only more forest. some were certain it must open to vast treasure and a golden path, while some were quite afraid of what might be found on the other side. the fearful ones stood aside intoning chants of protection and wringing their hands as the strongest of the others attempted to force the door open, prying it and pushing on it to no avail. then, magic incantations and words of entrance were whispered and shouted; again to no avail. someone suggested burning it down, but fire would not take to it. frustration was mounting high as they all tried to ram it and exhausted themselves in the trials.

just then, having heard about the magical doorway, a man and his daughter came to have a look. the tiny child, no more than three years old, scrambled down from her father's arms and strode directly up to the doorway. shouts of "no! be careful! there could be evil behind that door" could be heard from the crowd, but she paid no attention and stood there gazing at the door. after a second, she turned with innocent, beatific eyes on her father and said "love." "yes darling Clarissa, i love you too, but come away now" answered her father, reaching for her. "yes father, i love you too" Clarissa said indulgently, "but i mean; love is the key. love can open any door." the resulting chuckles and "awww, how cute" statements were stopped short as everyone noticed a heart appearing from nowhere on the middle of the door. the child Clarissa, with total and unconditional love in her soul, reached up and placed her tiny hand on the heart in the door. the door silently swung fully open as all those gathered gasped and turned with incredulous eyes to the girl and to each other. Clarissa stepped through the doorway and onto a beautiful flower strewn path obviously leading to a magical land, then turned full around and said. "see? love truly is the key to any locked door. everyone through all ages has said this; now try it."

Clarissa then turned and began to walk on the glowing path, as one by one the others entered, saying "love truly is the key." they all passed unharmed into a magical landscape of truth and treasure.
