‹› the lotus of light ‹›

the Student was awakened from a dream that seemed an eternity of walking on a path filled with gnarled trees, boulders, and winding ways. what woke him was the distinct and recognizable voice of his Mentor calling to him. at least, he thought he was awake, but when he opened his eyes, he was still on the same path, walking tirelessly through the woods of some ancient forest. this did not startle him, because of the many experiences in life teaching him that reality and illusion were closely knit in truth. the Student heard his Mentor's voice again coming from just around another bend in the path, so he continued to walk in that direction. within three steps, the path straightened out and was clear of all boulders; even the trees were tall and straight, lining the path ahead. and there, sitting calmly under one of those trees was his Mentor. she was quietly singing to herself, but rose and greeted her Student graciously as he came toward her.

"may your steps bring you to happiness" she said in the Old Way. "may your path be lined with joy" he responded in kind, with a respectful bow. "come, let us walk together a bit, my son" smiled the Mentor. they had gone but a few steps when the mentor stopped and spoke again.

"what do you see as you look upon your path now, dear Student?" the Student found that is eyes had been closed as if still dreaming, so he opened them and was amazed to see a brightly lit portal ahead on the path. "i see an opening full of light" he answered. 

"yes, dear boy" whispered his Mentor. "i see it for you too. it is a signal of great importance at this time. you have been diligently removing boulders of negativity as you have progressed, and have endured the winding ways of confusion at the same time. now you see the obstructions gone, and the path is full of clarity and understanding. seeing this opening of light in your dreams means that you are being called into a new and bright passage of life. i have come here to celebrate this birthing with you, and to assure you that you always have company and protection on the Way. pause not in your movement, precious Student; this is the breakthrough you have sought. now, you are being invited to step into the lotus of light that exists within the twilight of reality and illusion, and can illuminate your very core with divine inspiration. know you this: once you have stepped into this lotus portal, and bathed in the light of understanding, you will never be able to live an ordinary life in an ordinary way again. you will see everything as a form of energy that exists in yourself as well. you will not, in mind, heart or spirit, be able to separate anything or anyone from the unity of the whole. illusion and reality will exist as one and you will perceive this oneness in all things. this is a time of great transformation for you, dear boy. undertake it with joy, for you are the light into which you are about to step."

the Student opened his eyes again, even though he thought they were open before, and his Mentor had disappeared from view. he could, however, still hear her calling to him from the other side of the portal, in front of which he now stood. he closed his eyes, took three long breaths of gratitude, for all that had been, all that is, and all that will be, and stepped into the lotus of light.
