in the Seer's hand was a small palette knife with which she was daubing dark paint on canvas. she was explaining her method to the young woman who had come to her for guidance:

"you see, Amelia, this is how i do divination. as i paint, the telling that is needed appears on the canvas as if by magic. it always astounds me, even as it is happening...."

the Seer, named Marissa, fell silent for a few moments, but her hands were working feverishly over the painting as Amelia waited with subdued anticipation. presently, Marissa stepped away from the canvas, studied it carefully for a moment, then spoke to Amelia in a strong assured voice.

"i see here that what you need to do, Amelia, is find true confidence in yourself. trust in your gifts and talents, for they are great, even if at the moment you do not think them so. you have been hiding in the shadows long enough, dear girl; it is time to uncover your brilliance and let it shine into this world. you are afraid that you will not be accepted, or will be criticized and misunderstood. this may be the case, because often people of this world do not appreciate the gifts of others. sometimes due to jealousy or enviousness, sometimes due to ignorance and blindness.... but you can not allow this possibility to stop you from moving forth, now. believe me, Amelia, the longer you take a false refuge in the shadows of your fears, the more difficult it becomes to step into the light of your own making. look at this painting for moment. it shows that, like this kitten, you have nearly covered yourself up entirely. the world is only getting the tail end of your beauty as you pass through life; but once it sees your entire being shining in the light of your confidence and bravery, the world will feel blessed by your presence. the painting shows also, that in reality, you are hiding from no one but yourself. one of the truths in life, dear one, is that none can hide from themselves for long without becoming someone else. you want to, need to, be fully yourself, expressing your unique talent and beauty with excitement and joy. you can not be this until you agree to step out of the shadows and shine in the light of your own making. no one, Amelia, can pull you out from under the covers you have created. this you must do for yourself."

Marissa the Seer stopped talking for a moment and saw teardrops forming in the eyes of the younger woman. she stepped over to Amelia and gave her a very motherly hug and said,

"take heart my dear. there will be those everywhere to help you. it's just that you must make the decision yourself before they can appear. if you see the beauty you possess, and decide to make this movement into your own light, many will come to your aid and you will be cherished, honored and quite successful. you must see yourself in the light before others can find you. now please Amelia, hide from yourself no longer, for it continues to take you further and further away from your destiny."

Amelia stood just then and returned Marissa's hug with a fervency she had not felt for years. a little smile came upon her face as she said "Marissa, may i paint with you for a while?"

"why, of course you may" answered the Seer. "perhaps we will find more of life's truth appearing for us...."
