‹› dancing in the clouds ‹›
he never walked it seemed. he called himself Dervish, but was more often known as the Whirling Wizard. he would spin and dance as he traveled, moving as a blur through woods and towns and country lanes, leaving a bit of energetic magic in each place he went; miracles thrown off his twirling body and attaching to those who witnessed his passage. he rarely stopped, however on this day he chose to do just that when he saw a young girl in tears sitting by the side of the road. feeling compassion, he altered his traveling movement to a slow clockwise spin to ground himself and stopped beside her. he was still vibrating visibly as he spoke; "what's the matter child? why do you cry?"
"i really am not sure" answered the young girl looking up, apparently not surprised to see the Dervish lightly garbed in black robes vibrating beside her. "there seems to be so many things i can do nothing about, and it makes me sad...."
"well" responded the whirling Wizard, "may i tell you something?" she silently nodded her head at him. "especially when there are things you can do nothing about" continued Dervish, "it is time to dance." "dance?" she asked quietly. "yes. dance" he said matter-of-factly, then went on:
"do not spend the time or energy worrying about that which you may not be able to change at the moment. dance. let movement into your moment and allow it to lessen the unproductive thoughts. if your body cannot or will not, let movement dance in your smile, dance in your eyes, dance in your expansive heart. begin to do a lively step, inside if nowhere else, and soon your laugh will want to erupt forth like the sun on clouds." his words inspired her to stand, slightly smiling as she tentatively moved to some unheard music. "spin, dear girl!" exclaimed the Wizard happily. "spin until those tears fly from your face and become rain for another day!" she started to spin and spin while Dervish moved all around her, clapping his hands and encouraging her dance. she could feel the tears and worries being thrown off her and disappearing into the ether. finally she guffawed out loud and fell to the ground laughing and laughing in pure elation, with Dervish joining in.
"you know something?" she asked the Wizard as the laughter subside; "i feel much better. and, i felt a solution to at least one problem spin right into my heart as i danced! thank you!"
"yes, that can happen" said the Whirling Wizard with a knowing smile. "you are welcome, young lady. when your heart dances, many things may spin out so others may happily dance in. and when you get very good at letting movement dance in your heart, you will be able to dance on the clouds!"
as the young girl laughed and smiled at him a little incredulously, Dervish started spinning counter-clockwise very fast until he levitated in a blur straight up to the clouds. she watched him for while until he spun higher still, and then was gone....
when all else fails, dance in the clouds
