‹› the Sea Glass Moon ‹›
somewhere deep inside Aurora had always known it could be different, but had it not been for her dream the world she lived in might never have changed. to anyone from here and now, their world would seem strange indeed, but it was all they knew and their lives reflected it. there was no color their world, so there was no color in their lives. they lived an existence of extreme duality; everything was black and white, with the only surcease being the drabness of grey in between. knowing nothing else, everyone accepted this as normal; everyone, that is, except for Aurora. when she was younger, Aurora had experienced a dream wherein she was transported to a place of brilliance and colors for which she had no name. they struck her eyes with wonder and somehow made her feel joyous and more alive. while surrounded in her dream by this plethora of ecstatic sight, Aurora heard the voice of the Moon Goddess rippling to her ears through the magnificent colors: "you have eyes that see differently than the rest, Aurora" the Goddess told her. "look well, dear girl, and you shall find the missing colors of your world. with your perseverance and strength, collect them all, bring them to me, and we shall shine them brightly for all to see. you are a special and magical being Aurora, and will change the lives of those around you by this. go now, harvest the colors of life and bring them to me...."
when she awoke from her dream, Aurora was disappointed that the world was still drab and colorless, but she was not dismayed. she immediately went out to the ocean beach where her world made its home to find the missing colors. what happened there astounded her. when she noticed a friend and went to tell her about her fantastical dream, instead her voice, of its own volition, said "you are so beautiful, Saytal. what a special person you are." Aurora was then amazed with a vision of bright color surrounding her friend, and as Saytal smiled a thank you and moved on, some of that magnificent color around her stayed on the sand and formed itself into a piece of sea glass. Aurora happily picked it up knowing she had found part of the missing colors. this happened time and time again: she would be moved to tell someone the positive truth of how she saw them ~ special, intelligent, resourceful, kind... how wonderful it was to have them in her life ~ and each time, they would shine with color for a moment, then move on with a smile leaving a brilliantly colored piece of sea glass on the sand. even though no one else could see the missing colors, Aurora eagerly went about this for a long time collecting each one in a harvest of beauty.
finally, on the night of the full Moon in Autumn, she heard the voice of the Goddess again saying "it is time dear girl; bring them to me." without questioning, Aurora, bundled up her harvest of colors and, with everyone curiously watching her, strode onto the white path of reflected moonlight on the ocean. to the astonishment of all, she walked directly toward the Moon on top of the water, growing larger and brighter all the way. when she reached the horizon, Aurora began to float upwards with her collection of colors and became a part of the Moon. immediately, colors of gold and green and frosted pink, to name but a few, shined through the glass and began to powder the dark air around the no longer white Moon. those left on the beach saw them now, the colors, and as they looked around in their wonder, they realized they could see then everywhere. as their world changed, they heard Aurora's voice sounding every bit like the Breath of the Goddess, saying "always see the beautiful colors in each other and your world will never be the same."
some people call that Moon the Harvest Moon to this day, representing the bountiful rewards given to them by her grace, belief and hard work; but to the people who witnessed it, it was known as Aurora's Sea Glass Moon, and they gave her constant thanks for bringing color to their lives.
Full Moon Harvest Blessings to all
