‹› what you see most... ‹›
Sky Watcher was walking with her head in the clouds, which was not an unusual event for the tribe's resident cloud gazer. she was contemplating a significant cloud formation and its probable portents when she almost tripped over a young girl who was sitting on the ground with her arms crossed. the girl was obviously very close to crying. Sky Watcher was about to say something to her when the youngster turned sharply around, yelled to a group of children, "i am not afraid! i just do not want to go!" and then promptly burst into tears as she turned back around.
"my dear, what's wrong?" Sky Watcher said as she sat down and put her arm around the girl. "oh, Grandmother" cried the child into the woman's gentle hug; "my friends all call me Rabbit and say i am scared and run away from everything... i guess it's true; i am scared. they have all gone exploring to find a new place for us to play because Butterfly said we should, but i don't want to find a new place. you never know what might happen if you change things. bad things can happen, and it makes me afraid."
Sky Watcher looked up at the clouds as the girl continued to cry, but after a moment said "look at that cloud, dear girl. do you see the shape of Kokopelli, the flute player, in it?" after wiping her eyes and staring at the cloud for a moment, the youngster exclaimed "why yes, i see it!" "Wonderful. and if you look very hard, you can see a little white chested rabbit sitting there listening to Kokopelli play. this little rabbit is so timid and afraid that she's almost invisible...." "Yes, i see her" said the girl excitedly, no longer crying. "Yes? very good" said the cloud gazer, and as ethereal flute music began to fill the air she continued:
"Kokopelli's notes tell a story, which i shall tell you. there was this little rabbit who kept running away from everything, but strangely enough she kept running headlong into that which she feared. this rabbit was so afraid of bad things happening that she called those very things to her. one day when she was running from a horse she was certain would trample her, she ran right into the path of another horse who stopped just in time. the horse, a wise beast who seemed to know exactly what was going on, looked at the scared little rabbit and said 'have you not learned yet tiny friend, that you can never run away from your fears? horses know that one always gets what one expects to get, so we expect to be strong and powerful and able to handle most any situation, and so we are. you expect bad things, so you get them in abundance.... run up to your fears and say hello, little one, and you will find they are often much smaller than you can imagine. be as a horse, running to things in strength not away from things in fear, and you will see your life emerge with power before your very eyes.'" Sky Watcher paused for a second as the young girl thought, then finished; "the rabbit listened and did as the horse advised, and soon became known as the rabbit who jumped to the Moon so great was her power...."
just then, the girl jumped up and started running in the direction the other children had gone. "where are you going?" asked the cloud gazer. the youngster called back; "...going to explore with my friends, and tell them that from now on they must call me Horse!" Sky Watcher smiled, and put her head back in the clouds.

what you see most is what you will become
